Vocabulary: FOOD


Hello to everybody, today we are going to change our topic. I have been thinking that something important when we go abroad is food. Thus, I have made a selection of vocabulary of things that may be useful to you when you speak to someone about food.
  • Chew: to make something soft with your teeth.
  • Gulp: to swallow food or liquid quickly.
  • Grate: to make food into small piece by rubbing it over a metal tool.
  • Steam: to cook over a pain of boiling water by allowing the hot mist from the water to past through small holes in a container with food in.
  • Barbecue: to cook food outdoors on a metal grills over wood or charcoal.
  • Marinade: to soak meat or fish in a mixture of wine and herbs, etc, before cooking it.
  • Nibble : to eat something by taking small bites.
  • Swallow: to make food or liquid pass down the your throat from your mouth to the stomach.
  • Gobble: to eat greedily.
  • Baste: to pour melted fat an juices over meat as it is cooking.
  • Slice: to cut something into thin pieces.
  • Fry: to cook food in oil or fat in a shallow pan.
  • Grill: to cool food using very strong heat directly above it
  • Sip: to drink something by taken only a small amount of liquid at a time
  • Chop: to cut food into small pieces with a knife.
  • stir-fry: to cook vegetables or meat quickly in hot oil. Chinese food is often cooked in this way.

  • Bake: to cook in an oven without any extras liquid or fat. Bread and cake are usually cooked this way.
  • Dice: to cut food into small cubes.
  • Roast: to cook food (especially meat) over a fire or in a oven.
  • Fibre: in the eat for strong.
  • Carbohydrates: is in brown bread or vegetables.
